Top 5 Reasons Why You’ll Love Condo Living

Nov 3, 2020 / Buying

Condo Living represents convenience, security, and comfort. It is the most convenient and luxurious type of living that gives numerous reasons a house will not be able to offer. It’s no surprise that the condo market in Vaughan is not slowing down. It might be time to consider the next phase of your living situation and we think the condo lifestyle has a lot to offer.

#1 – Live in The Hottest Locations

Living in a condo usually means living near the best places. As soon as a condominium is built, a neighborhood café, restaurant, and pub are usually set up within its vicinity. The best kind of places are the local and independently owned one-of-a-kind shops that give a community its unique flair and personality.

If you live in Vaughan, check out its quirky coffee shops like Loukoumania Café, Coffee Culture, and Spin Dessert Cafe as well as enjoy a wonderful meal at The Keg Steakhouse + Bar.

What you give up in space when choosing a condo unit over a traditional house, you make up for in its ideal locations and accessibility. Its prominent GTA locations also guarantee that the building’s value can only increase over time, making it a great investment!

#2 – Enjoy Built-in Amenities

A condo is so much more than just a place to live; it’s a home with every amenity you could ever want, mere steps from your front door. Living in a condo brings you immediately closer to a list of luxuries you otherwise wouldn’t have access to in a house or an apartment such as: an indoor pool, hot tub, sauna, exercise room, a rooftop terrace & much, much more!

If you’re a full-fledged urbanite who thrives in the hustle and bustle of an urban jungle, you might want to consider investing in a condominium unit in the heart of the city you love. That way, you’ll be able to make the most of what your city has to offer.

#3 – Security & Safety

It’s important to feel safe in your own home, especially when you live in a sprawling city. Condominiums have security systems in place that would be costly to implement in a traditional home. Young professionals working long hours usually monitor who is able to enter the premises of a condominium, and security cameras are installed in all relevant areas within the property.

#4 – Less Effort on Upkeep and Maintenance

When you’re living in a condo, you’ll love the freedom of knowing you’ll never have to be responsible for property maintenance, repairs, and upkeep ever again.  Enjoy the gorgeous panoramic views of the changing seasons without having to think about scheduling time in your day to shovel snow, mow the lawn, or rake leaves.

#5 – Ideal Neighbourhood

As you take advantage of the shared amenities and move through the building, take these opportunities to strike up a conversation while relaxing on the sun deck, or over drinks in the dining room; you may be surprised who you’ll meet.

Condo living is a great place to strengthen social ties, being the perfect venue to gather old and new friends without having to worry about making room in your home!

#5 – Bring your Outdoor Space to life

The Best Golf Courses In Vaughan Ontario | Find Golf Communities Near Toronto

Oct 9, 2020 / Lifestyle

In search of homes for sale on golf courses in Ontario? Well then consider looking in the city of Vaughan, located in the Greater Toronto Area and a short distance northwest of Toronto proper.

This fantastic area has many attractions and a wide mix of property types, as well as some of the best golf course communities in Ontario. While there aren’t any clubs that fully integrate golf courses with residential options, you can still find many communities that are close enough to golf courses that you can be within a stone’s throw of the clubhouse, or enjoy a beautiful fairway view.

So, if you’re looking for golf course real estate in Ontario, then take a look at these golf courses in and around Vaughan.

– Remember that the golf season typically ends in November so be sure to get your tee times booked! –

The National Golf Club of Canada

With this list, we’re starting at the top. The National Golf Club of Canada regularly hosts high-profile competitions, consistently ranks as the best golf course in Canada, and has even made it onto some international rankings in recent years.

Construction of the course began in the early 70s and was officially opened in 1975. Originally designed by the renowned George Fazio, subsequent design and maintenance were taken over by his equally-famous son, Tom Fazio, with the brief to create one of the most difficult courses in the world.

Today, the course still lives up to that mandate, as it is known for its narrow fairways, tricky greens, and deceptive bunkers. Golfers from around the world remark on the memorability of this course, thanks to its challenging and strategic nature.

The National Golf Club of Canada is member-owned, with stakes selling for around $40,000 and $12,000 charged annually in dues.

Located in the Woodbridge area of Vaughan, The National Golf Club of Canada is sometimes called “The Nash”, or even “National Estates Golf Course” due to its proximity to a housing estate of the same name.

If you want to live around The National Golf Club of Canada, then look for available properties in Weston Downs or National Estates which are both close neighbours. More generally, anywhere in East Woodbridge will put you close to this prestigious golfing landmark.

The Country Club

The Country Club in Islington Woods was established in 1965 and offers golfers an expansive 46 holes across three courses. These are the East, South, and West courses, which wind their way through the gently undulating terrain of the Humber River Valley.

The Country Club also features a fantastic clubhouse with a patio, event spaces, and a bistro that provides excellent dining options. The Country Club is a great option for special events, like weddings, or just a relaxing evening taking in the beautiful surroundings.

The Country Club is a large and sprawling course. As such, there are many neighbourhoods and communities that border it, including Belvedere Estates, Woodbridge Highlands, and Seneca Heights.

The club is administered by ClubLink, so your membership at The Country Club means that you could have access to more than 50 courses distributed throughout eastern Canada and Florida. Furthermore, fees with ClubLink are payable in installments, putting membership within reach of many.

If you want to sneak a peek at this beautiful course, take a drive down Clarence Street in Islington Woods, Vaughan. Or, you can visit the clubhouse by turning onto Davidson Drive from Islington Avenue.

Note that part of the course is slated for residential development, although it is unclear when this will occur. These homes are virtually guaranteed to include fairway views and unprecedented access to the club.

Copper Creek Golf Club

Copper Creek Golf Club is a relatively new addition to the gold scene in Vaughan. We say “new”, but it was first founded in 2002, occupying a picturesque location between Nobleton and Kleinburg.

The course was designed by Doug Carrick, and features a wide-open design for one portion, descending into forest for the rest of the 18 holes.

A huge highlight for this club is the 40,000 square foot clubhouse which boasts a stunning banquet hall, delightful bistro, and epic views of the surrounding course and countryside. The Sunday brunch menu is a somewhat famous affair and definitely recommended for anyone visiting or living in the Vaughan area – just make sure to get an appointment!

Copper Creek Golf Club is a public course, with green fees ranging from $99 to $185 depending on the season and time.

The area surrounding Copper Creek is mostly rural. However, there are a number of exclusive residential enclaves, like On The Boulevard and Humber Hills just south of that. The stately Hedgerow Lane community is situated across the intersection from Copper Creek Golf Club, and the new Copperwood residential development lies a short distance north, close enough to still be across from the course itself.

Uplands Golf & Ski Club

First opened as an 18-hole private course in 1922, the Uplands Golf & Ski Club in the Thornhill area of Vaughan packs a lot into its relatively modest 9-hole space.

Not only does it offer golf rounds in affordable packs (dropping as low as $24 per round), but the club also includes ski courses and disc golf. This place is an entertainment package all of its own. Summer or winter, you’ll have something to do at Uplands Golf & Ski Club.

The sloping terrain makes for some challenging golf as well as breathtaking scenery.

The area has an excellent mix of neighbourhoods, like Beverley Glen to the west, Royal Orchard to the east, and South Richvale to the north across Highway 407. Within Uplands itself there is a second golf club – The Thornhill Club – which borders Uplands Club to the south. This makes Uplands in Vaughan a great place to live for golf enthusiasts, as roughly half the entire community’s area is given over to golf courses!

The Thornhill Club

As mentioned above, this club is also situated in the Uplands neighbourhood of Thornhill in Vaughan. Unlike the Uplands Club, this golf course is a full 18 holes, plus another 9-hole executive course.

The Thornhill Club is a majestic facility that includes a swimming pool, tennis courts, curling rink, and gym. And once you’ve worked up an appetite, you can sit down to eat at one of 8 dining facilities in the club. Some of these cater to private functions, while the Sunflake Grill and The Stanley Thompson Grill cater to members’ daily needs.

First established in 1922, the course has a storied history and has played host to many golfing greats and tournaments, as well as being designed by the renowned Stanley Thompson.

As great as it is, The Thornhill Club is only part of the reason why this part of Vaughan is great for golfers. On top of the previously mentioned Uplands Club, and The Thornhill Club discussed here, there is another club just across Yonge Street – the Ladies’ Golf Club of Toronto. And Yonge Street itself has a number of stores and restaurants to make this a one-stop destination for entertainment, outdoor activity, and convenience. You can have play a round of golf, then retire to the local Starbucks, bakery, library, pool, sushi joint, or tennis club.

Maple Downs Golf & Country Club

Located in the northeast area of Vaughan known as Rural Vaughan, the Maple Downs Golf & Country Club consistently ranks as one of the best golf courses in Canada.

Maple Downs is a private 18-hole course that, since its inception in 1954, has seen a string of designers commissioned to update and refine the course over the decades. This list of professionals includes Doug Carrick, Graham Cooke, Ian Andrew, Mike Weir, Ron Garl, Thomas McBroom, and William Mitchell.

The club includes a pool and tennis courts, as well as facilities for dining and events like weddings. The course itself is known for beautiful undulating greens, water features, and surrounding woodland.

North of Maple Downs is mostly farmland. However, the surrounding area of Rural Vaughan has a number of excellent residential developments. Ambassador Hills lies directly across the road from Maple Downs’ northern entrance and MacKenzie Ridge is across from the main entrance. The neighbourhood of Northdale lies between these.

The Ravines of Maplewood is another nearby community a short distance northwest of Maple Downs.

Eagles Nest Golf Club

Eagles Nest Golf Club is another club located in Rural Vaughan, but close to both the Maple and Patterson areas as well. This club provides concierge service and amenities, including upscale dining and an expansive deck overlooking a lake.

These modern facilities were first opened in 2004, and since then the club and the course have garnered recognition as one of the best in Canada. This public course has excellent options for tiered memberships and passes, so you can find a plan that works for you.

The course itself has an open design, allowing you to take in the lay of the land from the clubhouse deck.

Nearby communities include Upper Thornhill Estates and MacKenzie Ridge townhomes. There are also a number of stores and services nearby at the intersection of Major MacKenzie Drive and Dufferin Street.

Top 5 High-Touch Areas in Your House To Disinfect Regularly

Oct 6, 2020 / Homeowners

Regularly disinfect your home’s highest-traffic areas. Research shows that the coronavirus can live on surfaces for hours. So, Let’s make it a priority to clean these areas regularly, and correctly. Here are the five areas to which you should pay special attention over the coming weeks and beyond.

#1. – The Kitchen

Your kitchen appliances, utensils, and surfaces including cutting boards, coffee makers, stovetops, refrigerators, countertops, and sink come in regular contact with uncooked and unwashed food, so they’re inhabited by bacteria. Research has found that areas, where food is stored or prepared, have more bacteria and fecal matter than any other place in the home, including the bathroom.

#2. – The Bathroom

It’s obvious, but the bathroom is definitely one high-traffic area you should disinfect regularly. it’s one area of your home you should likely clean more routinely.

#3. – Door Knobs, Handles, Switches, & Remotes

If you can grab it, bacteria remain on it. Items such as knobs, handles, switches including lights, and those on appliances and remotes are “High-Touch” surfaces that often contain more bacteria than other areas of our homes.

#4. – High Use Personal Items

Your cell phone—as well as your tablet, hairbrush, earbuds, and more—are things you may use every day, and often before you’ve washed your hands.

#5. – Containers & Cases

Anything that comes in contact with your face—and especially your eyes—should be regularly disinfected. Your make-up applicators and contact lens’ storage can be reservoirs for microbes that cause skin and eye infections. Regularly disinfect these items, store them in clean, dry places, at room temperature to limit bacterial growth.

It’s not just about how often you disinfect these areas; how you do it matters, too. First, you must clean surfaces before disinfecting them, removing any soil or debris. That kind of uncleanliness can interfere with the effectiveness of any disinfectant. Once they’re clean, then you can disinfect with your disinfectant of choice, like an all-purpose cleaner or wipes.

Follow these simple tasks consistently to keep your family clean and avoid catching the virus. Remember, your health matters too.

Fall in Love With Your Home Again!

Sep 30, 2020 / Homeowners

We’re spending more time at home than ever. You may be noticing some things you don’t like. Anyone can get tired of coming home to the same scene every day. Same furniture. Same colors. Same tired, old vibe. Don’t blame your house! Instead, revitalize your space room-by-room by making inexpensive but impactful home improvements.

Remember when you first moved into your house?

You felt like your home was made just for you: It fit your budget, your goals, and even your personality. In short, you fell in love. But the funny thing about love is, it can change over time. You start to notice squeaky floorboards, experience space shrink, and before you know it, your home’s luster begins to fade. You have fallen out of love. And you know what? It happens.

But there are ways to rekindle the love for your home without major upheaval and cost. So while you’re saving money or gearing up for another move, use these easy home improvement ideas to refresh your living space and remind yourself why you fell in love in the first place.

#1 – Freshen up your home

Focus on key areas in each room that are easily transformed to make an immediate impact.

In the Living Room..

Freshen up your entire room by changing a single piece of furniture, your couch/sofa. You don’t need to replace it to give it a new look. Mix up the prints, colors, and sizes on your throw pillows to add some unexpected visual interest to the space.

In the Bedroom..

Your bed’s linens, including the sheets and duvet cover, are excellent opportunities to instill life back into the room. Go bold, but not too wild. The only things better than clean sheets are new sheets. Try capitalizing on the space above your mattress. Because the eye is naturally drawn to your bed, hanging a new piece of art above it or replacing the headboard can instantly add drama to the space and create a new focal point for the room.

In the Bathroom..

Swap out your shower curtain for something that’s updated and stylish. Have a glass-enclosed shower? No problem. Invest in some new towels to brighten bath time.

#2 – Lose the junk

If you haven’t used something within the past year, toss it or pass it along to someone who can make better use of it. De-cluttering instantly makes space feel more open and functional. And sloughing off some unnecessary junk often lightens an emotional load, too.

#3 – Lighten up your Home

You may be surprised how a new lamp or fixture can dramatically change the mood of the room. It is one of the most important things to consider when setting up your space.

Reevaluate your lighting in each room to make sure you’re maximizing its potential. Consider functionality first. What activities take place in each room? Do you need light for reading? Food prep? Every light in your home should serve a purpose.

#4 – Make that upgrade you’ve always wanted

Whether it’s a new double oven or a hardwood floor in the entryway, something brand new may recharge your dwindling appreciation for your dwelling. Choose a home upgrade that adds value, and in addition to enjoying it for yourself, you may also better position your home for resale down the road.

You can also consider a DIY-inspired upgrade. Refinish rather than replace the floors, or give kitchen cabinets a fresh coat of paint and new hardware. The impact on your home will far outweigh the impact on your wallet!

#5 – Re-evaluate your needs!

Your needs are almost certainly different now than when you first moved in. After you’ve de-cluttered, redecorated, and re-envisioned your home, take the time to also reevaluate whether or not it can still satisfy your needs. These easy DIY home improvement ideas may help you find that loving feeling again. But sometimes, not even these techniques are enough to turn things around.

#6 – Consider a Mortgage Refinance

With a mix of low mortgage rates and having equity built up in your home, a refinance can be the final push that reinvigorates your relationship with your homestead.

Refinancing your mortgage gives you the flexibility to do what you’d like: lower your monthly mortgage payment, save on interest, or take cash out to fund one of the home upgrades mentioned above. Consider these options:

  • Reduce your interest rate: With rates still near historic lows, there’s a good chance you could lock in a lower rate than the one you currently have. Depending upon the loan you choose, you could decrease your monthly payment.
  • Shorten your loan term: Reducing your term, say, from a 30-year fixed to a 15-year fixed, allows you to save on interest over the life of your loan. You may even be able to refi to a shorter loan term and pay about the same each month.
  • Do a cash-out refi: Here, you refinance your existing mortgage into a new one with a larger outstanding principal balance and pocket the difference. Need to consolidate credit card debt, help save for college tuition or fund home improvements? A cash-out refi could be your answer.

There are plenty of ways you can improve your home – and your relationship with it – to rekindle that burning love to your home.
